Questions and answers

Everything people ask about Show Working, in plain words. Can't find yours? Write to us at support@showworking.co.uk.

What is Show Working?

Show Working is a GCSE revision app for iPhone and iPad, made in the UK by Boroto Ltd. Maths is ready now: fresh questions every time, the working shown for every answer, mock papers under exam rules, and challenges you can send to a friend.

Where can I get it?

Show Working is on its way to the App Store for iPhone and iPad. The App Store button on this site will work as soon as it is live.

What does it cost?

Show Working is free to download, and the first topic of each subject is free. Maths is then a single payment of £9.99 inside the app. There is no subscription and nothing renews.

How do I pay?

Inside the app, through your Apple Account, like any other App Store purchase. You can pay by card, with PayPal or with Apple Gift Card balance. Family Sharing is on, so one purchase covers your family.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app is not working, write to us first at support@showworking.co.uk and we will help.

Does it cover my exam board?

Yes. Show Working follows the Department for Education's GCSE maths subject content, which AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and WJEC Eduqas all use. It is independent and not connected to any exam board.

Is it for Foundation or Higher?

Both. You choose Foundation or Higher when you start and can switch at any time. Most kinds of question are on both tiers. A few, such as reverse percentages and calculating in standard form, are Higher only.

Which topics does it cover?

16 GCSE maths topics so far, across Number, Algebra, and Ratio, proportion and rates of change, with 36 kinds of question. Shape, probability and statistics are on the way.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no email address. Your progress stays on your device and in your own iCloud if you have it switched on.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Every question is made on your device, so you can practise on the bus or anywhere without a signal.

Are the answers always right?

Every answer is worked out by exact maths, not guessed, and every kind of question is checked thousands of times against a separate maths library before it is released. If you ever think one is wrong, tap Report a wrong question under it and send us the code.

What is a mock paper in Show Working?

A quick mock is 12 questions in 20 minutes with exam rules: no hints, no calculator, and the clock keeps running if you leave the app. At the end you say honestly whether you stuck to the rules. A full 90-minute paper will follow once every GCSE topic is in the app.

Can I track my mock scores?

Yes. Your mock scores appear on the Me page as a simple chart, and every mock is listed on the Mocks page with its score and whether you stuck to the rules.

Why is there an honest question at the end of a mock?

The app cannot watch you, and it does not try to. It counts how many times you left the app and asks whether you stuck to the rules. If you did not, the mock is kept as practice and left out of your progress, so your trend shows what you can really do.

Can parents see how it is going?

Yes, if the pupil chooses to share it. The app writes a short weekly summary on the phone, and the pupil sends it with the phone's own share menu. Nothing is sent to us.

Which subjects are there?

Maths is ready now. English Literature is next, starting with Macbeth and A Christmas Carol, then the sciences.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad, including iPad split view and the folding iPhone. It is not on Android yet.

Who makes Show Working?

Boroto Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with the number 15171190. You can write to us at support@showworking.co.uk.
