Privacy policy, in plain words

The short version. Show Working has no accounts, no adverts and no tracking. What you do in the app stays on your device, and in your own iCloud if you have it switched on. We never see it. This website only uses analytics cookies if you say yes.

Who we are

Show Working is made by Boroto Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15171190), registered office 10 Church Square, Leighton Buzzard, England, LU7 1AE. Boroto Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described here. You can contact us about privacy at support@showworking.co.uk.

The app

What is kept on your device

The nickname you type, your year and tier, how many questions you have done in each topic, your mock scores and your settings. We do not keep your answers, your drawings on the working pad, photos, location or contacts. None of this is sent to us.

iCloud

If iCloud is on for Show Working, Apple keeps a small copy of that information in your own iCloud so your progress comes with you to a new iPhone or iPad. Apple looks after it under its own privacy policy. We cannot see it.

Purchases

Purchases are made through Apple. Apple handles the payment, and we never see your card or payment details. To know which subjects you have bought, the app checks with RevenueCat, a company that works with App Store purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID made by the app, the purchase information Apple provides, and basic technical details such as the app version, the type of device and its IP address. It receives nothing about you as a person and nothing about your progress.

Sharing

When you share a result, a challenge or the weekly summary, your device's own share menu opens and you choose who gets it. It does not pass through us.

Reminders

A reminder is set on your device. Nothing is sent from a server. The app only asks to send notifications if you say yes to a reminder, after your first set or in Settings.

No adverts, no analytics, no tracking

The app has no adverts, no analytics and no tracking of any kind, and it does not share data with data brokers or advertisers.

Deleting your data

In the app, go to Settings and the Danger zone. You can clear one profile, or everything on this device and in your iCloud. Because we hold no copy, that deletes it completely. Your purchases stay with your Apple Account, because Apple holds them.

This website

Hosting

This website is hosted by Vercel. Like any website, Vercel's servers receive your device's IP address and basic details such as your browser type when pages load. Vercel uses these to deliver the site and keep it secure, and keeps them only for a short time. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in running a working, secure website.

Analytics, only if you say yes

When you first visit, we ask whether we can count visits. If you choose Accept, we use Google Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages help. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives the pages you visit, roughly where you are (country or city), your type of device and browser, and where you came from. It does not store your IP address. Google's advertising features and Google signals are switched off, and Google keeps this data for 2 months. If you choose No thanks, no analytics cookies are set and Google Analytics is not loaded. We rely on your consent for this, and you can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Details are on the cookies page.

Fonts and pictures

Fonts, pictures and code are all served from this website, so your browser does not contact other companies to show these pages.

Emailing us

If you email us, or use Report a wrong question in the app, we receive your email address, anything you write, and the question code if there is one. We use it to reply and to fix the question. We keep support emails for up to 12 months after the conversation ends, then delete them. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in answering you and keeping the questions right.

Children

Show Working is made for pupils aged 14 and over and their parents and carers. The app collects nothing about the pupil, and this website keeps analytics switched off unless someone says yes. If you are under 16 and unsure about anything here, ask a parent or carer.

Who else is involved

  • Apple: the App Store, payments and iCloud, under Apple's own privacy policy.
  • RevenueCat: checks which subjects have been bought.
  • Vercel: hosts this website.
  • Google: Google Analytics on this website, only if you say yes.

Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where your information leaves the UK, it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard data protection clauses. We never sell personal information.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or ask us to limit it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Write to support@showworking.co.uk and we will reply within one month. Most of the time we hold nothing about you at all, because the app keeps your information on your device.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We would like the chance to put it right first.

Changes

If we change how we use information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is important, we will also say so in the app.
